Panasonic has unveiled a reference grade UHD Blu-ray player at its 2018 European Dealer conference. The DP-UB9000 is a high-end model with a battleship build that hopes to disrupt Oppo’s UDP-203 and UDP-205 players.

The player supports both HDR10+ and DolbyVision dynamic metadata, and features the latest generation HCX (Hollywood Cinema Experience) processor, plus audiophile grade components.

At the dealer expo, Panasonic demo’d the DP-UB9000 with HDR10+ content supplied by Fox, including Kingsmen: The Golden Circle.

The DP-UB9000 features aluminium front and side panels.and boasts a vibration-reducing chassis. A newly-developed drive base with a thick steel plate fixes the optical disc drive to the centre of the chassis to reduce vibration and noise during disc rotation. It will also offer voice control from Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The DP-UB9000 has a 4K Direct Chroma Up-scaling feature, which up-converts Full HD to 4K resolution. When reproducing native Ultra HD Blu-ray content, 4:4:4/36-bit data is output for 4K/24p, and 4:2:2/36-bit data is output for 4K/60p.

It also has an HDR Optimiser and an HDR adjustment feature to compensate for viewing environments with high ambient light, as well as HDR to SDR conversion.

The deck also has an analogue 7.1 channel audio output, as well as stereo XLRs. The company wouldn’t be drawn on the DAC to be used, indicating that it’s currently fine tuning options. The player will also offer 4K streaming apps for Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime video.

The DP-UB9000 is expected to launch in the autumn, priced at £999.
