Optoma’s projectors are getting smarter. The company has announced that in addition to Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant can now also be used with its UHL55, UHD51A and UHD51ALVe 4K UHD home projectors, as well as the upcoming UHZ65UST ultra short throw laser 4K UHD projector, due this summer.
Voice control options include power, source selection, adjusting the sound output and controlling the inbuilt media player. The Google Assistant can also select various display modes and HDR picture modes, as well as selecting PureMotion options.
As with Amazon Alexa voice control, users need to connect the projector to a Wi-Fi network and register the projector within the Optoma MyDevices Account, to pair the device with Google Assistant.
These projectors are also now compatible with IFTTT (If This Then That) applets. IFTTT is a web-based protocol that allows users to create chains of conditional statements. Applets can be used by integrators to trigger events, such as dimming lights and dropping shades whenever a projector is switched on.
“Consumers are increasingly integrating voice assistants into their daily routines, as well as expecting the convenience of smart home integration with their devices and electronics, so it was important for us to align our new home cinema projectors with these growing consumer needs,” says Kishan Mistry, Product Manager at Optoma.
Optoma suggests voice assistants will better enable home cinema enthusiasts to integrate projectors, speakers, screens and lighting.
