Nico Rosberg launches Greentech Festival in Berlin

Greentech, hailed as the largest sustainability festival yet, is underway in Berlin. Running till May 25, the exhibition, conference and award ceremony focuses on sustainable innovations for the future. The event is expected to attract up to 50,000 visitors.

Taking place at the former Berlin-Tempelhof Airport, the event is the brainchild of former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg and entrepreneurs Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger. Partnering is Formula E, which will also host this year's Berlin E-Prix on May 25 on the airport field.

"We celebrate visionary idea creators and green solutions, companies and individuals who make a significant contribution to the preservation of our planet," says Rosberg.

Highlights include the Volocopter, a fully electric Multicopter, the Ehang drone taxi and the German premiere of the Pininfarina Battista electric hyper sports car. In addition to topics like mobility, the exhibitors will be presenting their take on what the details of a sustainable lifestyle can look like.

Google is showcasing Your Plan,Your Planet software, Veloform is presenting the world's smallest hotel, and Insnack will let guests taste insect ice cream.

At the two-day Green Leaders conference, 60 prominent thought leaders, pioneers and leading business representatives will address the pressing eco issues in keynotes, breakout sessions and panel discussions. There are also presentations from Prof. Dr. Johan Rockström, a leading climate researcher, EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, National Geographic Explorer Asher Jay and H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.

"With the Greentech Festival, we want to create a global hub for the future's green technologies with which we can best reach every single person worldwide and inspire them to adopt a conscious lifestyle," co-founder Marco Voigt explains.
