The Odeon Cinemas group, and Dolby, have announced the first Dolby Cinema outside of London. The new screen will open at The Springs retail and leisure park, located to the East of Leeds.

Due to open its doors this Spring, the Odeon Luxe Leeds Thorpe Park will be home to the UK’s second Dolby Cinema, following the reopening of the Odeon leicester Square. A Dolby Vision dual 4K laser projection system, which promises twice the brightness and 500 times the contrast ratio of a standard cinema screens, will project onto a 19m screen, accompanied by Dolby Atmos immersive audio system. The theatre will feature 263 Luxe recliners.

Visitors to the new Odeon complex will also have access to a 173-seat Odeon iSense screen. Here, the screen itself measures 15m x 6.2m, and is curved to maximise light reflection. It’s also equipped for Dolby Atmos sound and 4K digital projection.

“We are hugely excited to bring the Odeon Luxe experience to the people of Leeds, sharing our passion for film with the local community,” said John Alls, General Manager. “We’ve put a great deal of effort into hiring enthusiastic local people to join our team to ensure we deliver the exceptional customer service expected by our guests. The combination of Luxe recliners and Dolby Cinema means that our cinema will offer local film fans a completely unique cinema experience, which is really exciting to be a part of.”

In total, the venue will feature ten screens and 971 luxury reclining seats.

“We’re delighted to be expanding our Dolby Cinema footprint in the UK," says Julian Stanford, Senior Director Dolby Cinema Europe. "Dolby Cinema enables richer and more exciting storytelling by filmmakers, through Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos – unrivalled picture and sound quality for any film. We are sure film fans in Leeds are going to love experiencing their favourite movies in the incredibly life-like Dolby Cinema!”
