Naim Audio has unveiled a second generation Mu-so Qb streaming audio system which delivers a significant performance boost over the original Mu-so Qb.

Supporting Spotify, Tidal and Internet radio, as well as local USB and network file playback (the Qb can handle files up to 32bit/384kHz via UPnPTM), this new iteration sports a number of user refinements, including an illuminated volume dial and proximity sensor, which lights up playback controls when approached. A revamped interface offers 15 touch sensitive buttons.

The Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation can also be controlled by a new remote control handset, as well as the Naim app.

The distinctive Qb design has evolved to match the Naim Mu-so 2nd Generation, with a new grille finish, and can be customised with optional replacement grilles in Olive, Terracotta or Peacock.

Inside CI attended a preview of the Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation, and noted that the new model appears to have considerably more dynamic slam than its predecessor. Several Mu-so Qbs playing in sync had no problem filling a large listening space.

The specification rates total power output at 300 Watts, served to four all-new high performance speaker drivers, a joint development project between Naim and Focal R&D departments. The onboard DSP promises 13 times the performance of the existing single core processor. As with its predecessor, it presents a soundstage that belies its compact dimensions.

Not only does the player have excellent Hi-Fi credentials, it’s a strong multiroom proposition too. The second gen Mu-so can be used in a multiroom set up with other Naim networked products, including 1stGeneration Mu-so and Mu-so Qb.

Connectivity covers Wi-Fi, Ethernet, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth. Chromecast is built-in. The new model is also Roon Ready.

The Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation will be available from September, with a retail price of £749.
