NAD has introduced the next-generation C 338 HybridDigital integrated amplifier. The first hi-fi amp to be released with Google Chromecast built-in, it allows users to stream directly from a multitude of Chromecast enabled apps, suing a laptop, smartphone or tablet. The C 338 can also be voice-activated, powered by the Google Assistant, to play music via Chromecast with a Google Home speaker or the Google Pixel phone.

The C 338 is Bluetooth enabled, and can serve as an UPnP Client for network streaming from a local NAS. It can also be driven by the NAD Remote App, for volume, source selection and power.

“Using music streaming apps has become the primary way for so many of us to listen to music,” says Greg Stidsen, NAD’s Director of Technology and Product Development.

The slimline component employs a Class D amplifier, capable of 50 watts of continuous power per channel (into 8 and 4 Ohms) and 150 watts of dynamic power at 4 Ohms. Power consumption is said to be better than half the power of other amplifiers in its class.  The C 338’s onboard DAC uses eight high-end DAC channels configured in a dual-differential array to  boost dynamic range to 120dB.

Inputs include an MM Phono stage for vinyl playback, stereo line input and digital and coax digital audio. There’s also a designated TV audio input, subwoofer output and dedicated headphone amplifier. The C 388 retails for £599.
