Monitor Audio has introduced the new Monitor Series. The line is distinguished by their orange driver cones, and funky, classic look; a retro aesthetic has the speaker model and number embossed to the cabinet.

The speakers employ the Black C-CAM dome tweeter, derived from the brand’s Bronze series, and comprises bookshelf and floorstanding speakers, a dedicated centre plus subwoofer, suitable for both two-channel and multichannel installations.

Features include smooth flowing HiVe II port technology, for fast transient response and tighter bass. Buyers have a choice of black, white or walnut finishes, with contrasting grey baffle. A high overall impedance (8 ohms) makes the Monitor Series easy to drive with lower power amplifiers.

The compact Monitor 50 (£160 per pair) has a square cabinet and 139mm MMP II driver and a 25 mm black C-CAM tweeter. The cabinet is rear ported and can be positioned close to a wall. The larger Monitor 100 (£200 per pair) has a 165mm MMP II bass driver and Black C-CAM tweeter. Unlike the 50, it has two sets of binding post terminals to support bi-wiring or a bi-amp set up.

The Monitor 200 (£400 per pair) is the smallest floorstander in the range, intended for small to medium sized rooms. Twin139mm MMP II bass drivers are housed in separate cavities, each with different tuning. The Monitor step-up 300 (£550 per pair) houses three 165mm MMP II bass drivers: two dedicated to bass and one to mid-range frequencies. It’s intended for medium to large rooms, as either a dedicated hi-fi speaker, or part of a premium home cinema system.

The timbre-matched Monitor C150 centre (£140) sports two 139mm MMP II drivers, and can be used close to a wall. Rounding off the system is the MRW-10 subwoofer (£350). This features a 254mm long throw MMPII bass driver, and is specified to perform lower than 30Hz. The onboard amplifier is rated at 100W. EQ settings provide adjustment for room and tastes.
