Monitor Audio has announced the Platinum In-Wall II, an architectural speaker with hi-fi DNA. The manufactuer has taken aspects of its flagship Platinum II freestanding stereo speakers and adapted them for in-wall applications.

The Platinum In-Wall II is a three-way reference architectural speaker system. The models have an adjustable mid/high frequency driver array, which allows the installer to fine tune audio imaging from both vertical or horizontal positions. The brand says that by rotating the array though 90 degrees at the centre of an LCR configuration, the soundstage can replicate a traditional boxed loudspeaker line-up.

The speakers utilise a damped, cross-braced composite structure comprising steel back plate and 25mm MDF with a front baffle made of AntiResonance Composite (ARC) material. Twin 6.5-inch RDT II bass drivers are positioned astride a centre pairing of Platinum II’s Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD) High Frequency Transducer, boasting a surface area around eight times that of a conventional dome, and 4-inch RDT II mid-range driver. The bass-drivers handle duties 300Hz and below.

A matt-black baffle allows the Platinum In-Wall II to be used behind a screen in a blacked-out custom theatre setting. Alternatively, the flat mesh grille can be painted to match room décor. Grilles are magnetic.
