Monitor Audio has expanded its architectural speaker line-up with two new flagship Controlled Performance (CP) models. The CP-IW260X and CP-IW460X in-wall speakers feature the company’s latest drive-unit technologies, in compact three-way, five-driver configurations.
The closed box design of the models promise high fidelity music replay and near-invisible installation. Monitor Audio’s ten-position ‘Tri-Grip’ mounting system simplifies installation within standard 4-inch stud wall bays. Both the CP-IW260X and CP-IW460X utilise trimless magnetic grilles, which can be painted to better match interior designs.
The new in-wall models feature Monitor Audio’s signature C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) cone material, with dual 165mm bass drivers and twin 102mm mid-woofers, either side of a tweeter in a symmetrical configuration. The bass/ mid drivers on the CP-IW460X also boast Monitor Audio’s RST ‘dimpled’ cone technology, which improves rigidity for enhanced dynamics.
The top of the line CP-IW460X also features a version of the high frequency ribbon transducer from the company’s acclaimed Gold and flagship Platinum speaker products (pictured above). This extends beyond 50 KHz, for class leading high frequency performance in in-wall speaker design. It can be used in either a horizontal or vertical orientation.
The sibling CP-IW260X features a conventional 25mm Gold Dome tweeter.
The back boxes of the new models are acoustically-sealed. This protects from dirt and dust, and reduces unwanted transmission of sound between walls and floors. Separate bi-wire terminations for the bass/mid and tweeter networks offer installers system flexibility.
Monitor Audio says the new models “offer high efficiency and power handling for class-leading sound pressure levels, combined with the dynamic wide-band response, deep bass extension and low distortion usually expected of specialised floor-standing speakers.”
