Monitor Audio has added a new outdoor speaker to its Climate Garden system range, for those seeking a premium ‘al fresco’ audio experience. The CLG160 features a 6-inch MMPII bass-mid range driver and 25mm Gold C-CAM dome tweeter, co-axially orientated to ensure the audio is directed towards the listening zone.

It joins the smaller CLG140 in the range, and can be integrated using a 70/100v line distribution system. The company says this provides installers with a scalable system, able to feature a large number of speakers, connected to a single amplifier. The speaker can be paired up with a Monitor Audio CLG-W12 subwoofer.

“More and more homeowners want to enjoy great quality music beyond the home,” says Monitor Audio’s Technical Director, Dean Hartley. “Our current Climate Garden system range has already helped installers take advantage of this opportunity. But we recognised a gap in the market for a slightly larger model that is capable of providing increased audio coverage in larger gardens.”

The speaker is wired in a mono configuration and powered by one amplifier channel. The other amplifier channel can be used to power a Monitor Audio CLG-W12 subwoofer. Alternatively, the system can be designed to provide stereo operation if desired by creating stereo left/right zones.

The CLG160 is suitable for ground level installation, within the garden and around decking areas, or can be mounted onto a tree, pole or garden fence. Cables are kept out of sight by passing through the bracket and ground spike.

The design incorporates a rigid cast polymer resilient to extreme weather conditions. The casing is certified to a rating of IP55. A thermal overload protection (PTC) is integrated into each speaker to protect against accidental power overload. Once tripped, it will automatically reset when power is reduced, resuming the system to a normal condition.

Finished in dark brown, the CLG160 is intended to blend into an exterior garden landscape. However, the speaker casing can be painted a different colour, if required.
