Monitor Audio has expanded its architectural loudspeaker line-up with two new flagship Controlled Performance in-wall models. The CP-IW260X and CP-IW460X sport compact three-way, five-driver configurations, built into a closed-box design. The duo are fronted by trimless magnetic grilles.
The speakers, which have been designed for music and home cinema sound, employ a high-end design and use technology tickled down from the brand’s top-end free standing line-up. C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) doped cones are deployed in a dual 6.5-inch bass driver, twin 4-inch mid and tweeter (‘B-M-T-M-B’) configuration.
For the first time in a compact Monitor Audio in-wall speaker, the flagship CP-IW460X (pictured below) features a version of the high frequency ribbon transducer, able to reach up to 50 KHz, used in its Gold and Platinum speaker lines. The ribbon can be rotated to accommodate horizontal and vertical installation. This audiophile attention to detail is also reflected on the bass and mid drivers, which employ the brand’s RST ‘dimpled’ cone technology, which uses concentric dimples to strengthen the radiating surfaces. This five driver configuration is installed within a rigid die-cast metal baffle
By way of contrast, the CP-IW260X (pictured above) uses a 1-inch Gold Dome tweeter, and specially vented housing to reduce air pressure behind the dome for lower resonance and greater accuracy over a wider range. In common with other CP series models, both the CP-IW260X and CP-IW460X are fitted with acoustically-sealed cast-polymer back boxes, which the brand says ensures a consistent performance wherever they’re installed.
