Meridian Audio has announced a partnership with LG Electronics, with an aim to “bring high performance audio to more people across the world.” It’s an intriguing marriage. Meridian’s reputation for class leading audio is unrivalled, and LG has found momentum with mass-market high-end consumer electronics.

Meridian has been a pioneer of high resolution audio, developing revolutionary technologies such as MQA, and is a trendsetter when it comes to DSP. It launched the world’s first digital active loudspeaker and is an expert in the field of psychoacoustics. More recently, Meridian designed the world’s first in-car 3D surround sound system in 2012 for Range Rover.

LG says it intends to “incorporate” Meridian expertise into its future projects. The move could be seen as a response of sorts to rival Samsung’s acquisition of the Harman International audio group.

“We are thrilled to have entered into this unique partnership with LG,” says John Buchanan, Chief Executive Officer at Meridian Audio. “We are confident that our expertise and shared values will see us bring a great number of innovations to the market together, both now and in the future.”

Seo Young-jae, head of CAV (Convergence Audio & Video) at LG Home Entertainment describes the the partnership as an “example of LG’s commitment to creating premium audio systems that can rival the best in the business. This partnership is all about delivering an outstanding entertainment experience for LG customers worldwide.”
