McIntosh has released a firmware update that brings DTS:X and Auro-3D object-based 3D audio to its flagship MX122 AV processor.

Launched earlier this year, the MX122 supports Dolby Atmos out of the box. The new firmware includes DTS Neural-X, which adds the ability to convert stereo and 5.1 source material into an immersive soundfield.  The processor is an 11.2 channels design, able to support an Atmos configuration of 7.2.4. In addition to 3D audio, existing formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are supported.
