McIntosh Laboratory has unveiled the C47, a 12-input digital preamp for both digital and analogue source components. In addition to four digital inputs, the C47 includes two balanced and three unbalanced analogue inputs, plus Moving Coil and Moving Magnet phono inputs. The headphone input benefits from McIntosh’s proprietary Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD).

In addition to vinyl versatility, High res Audio support is high. File compatibility, via USB, includes DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 along with DXD 352.8kHz, while twin optical and single coaxial inputs can decode at up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. For SACD playback, the C47 preamp can connect digitally to the McIntosh MCT450 SACD/CD transport via the MCT input, providing  a direct DSD connection. For multichannel systems, there’s a Home Theatre Pass Through feature.

Design wise, the C47 maintains the retro-cool look of the rest of the McIntosh range, with black glass front panel, an illuminated logo and brushed-aluminium end caps. The C47 will retail for £3,995 and ships into the UK October/November. Distribution is via Jordan Acoustics.
