Are you Roon ready? McIntosh certainly is. The high-end US audio brand has announced that eleven products have now received Roon Tested designation.

Roon is gaining traction as an enriched way to browse and organise your music collection. The platform links tracks to artist photos, credits, bios, reviews, lyrics and tour date, within a surfable digital magazine. Roon also offers high-res, DSD and PCM upsampling and multichannel support.

The McIntosh products receiving Roon Tested designation are: C47, C52, C2600 and D1100 preamplifiers; MA5300, MA7200, MA8900 and MA9000 integrated amplifiers; MAC7200 Receiver; MHA150 headphone amplifier and MXA80 integrated audio system.

All of these models feature an 8-channel, 32-bit DAC used in Quad Balanced mode, with coaxial and optical digital inputs able to decode up to 24-bit/192kHz, plus USB inputs aup to 32-bit/384kHz PCM. They also have DSD256 and DXD 384kHz support.

Compliance means that Roon recognises the devices, and will send them optimised audio out of the box. There’s no need for the user to navigate playback modes or configure Roon DSP Upsampling.

New Roon users will need to create a Roon account, then download and install the application. Existing Roon users can trigger their system to acquire McIntosh device icons and settings by restarting their Roon Core., then using the Identify My Device feature in Device Settings.

“Many McIntosh customers have requested support for Roon and today we are happy to announce that all of our current model preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers with digital audio are now Roon Tested,” says McIntosh President Charlie Randall. “All of these products were already full-featured units, and now with adding Roon Tested capabilities they will bring even more value and enjoyment to their owners.”
