Lyngdorf Audio hopes to rewrite the high-end home cinema rule-book with the MP-50, its first multichannel surround processor. First seen at ISE, it’s now available in the UK through Gecko Home Cinema.

The MP-50 features eight HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.2, and two outputs. Audio decoding covers Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D. It sports 16 balanced XLR outputs and can output 12 unique channels (the remaining outputs can be used to drive additional speakers or subs). There’s also an HDBaseT output to distribute uncompressed video and audio. Installers have the option of an optional DCI-compliant digital AES/EBU input for integration with digital cinema servers.

It’s biggest weapon though is probably Lyngdorf’s own Room Perfect calibration system. RoomPerfect bass management blends the output from speakers and subs for a seamless sound field. “With the correct subwoofer configuration, remarkable performance can be achieved with very discreet speakers,” says Gecko’s Rob Sinden. “Good music recordings will quickly highlight the shortcomings in any surround system. Few home cinemas, regardless of price provide the fidelity required to satisfying those familiar with live music.”

Designed to partner Lyngdorf SDA-2400 digital amplification (pictured top), the MP-50 runs cool with a fan-less design. Consequently, it can be used within preferred furniture or where space is at a premium. The MP-50 also incorporates a back-up system, enabling all settings to be quickly restored in case of failure, a plus for Marine installs and overseas projects.

A voicing tool can store up to 32 preferences. Each voicing can consist of up to eight filters with adjustable gain. There are seven digital inputs (four optical, three coaxial), and USB. A built-in media player offers Spotify and AirPlay integration.

The MP-50 retails for £11,995. For further information, or to arrange a demonstration, contact Gecko on 0845 262 2882.
