Loewe has introduced the Subwoofer 300, a compact, downward-ported bass box for use with its premium TV offerings. The sub has a 150w amplifier and three 15cm drivers, – one active and two passive radiators (see cutaway below).Nice enough you might think. But there's more to this sub though than first meets the eye.

The addition ugrades any Loewe TV to a basic 2.1 configuration. However, add a pair of external Loewe speakers and you can create a 3.1 array, with the TV acting as the centre speaker. The subwoofer itself carries 75w on-board amplification for the two L/R channels. There’s even the option of a full 5.2 surround system, with the front and rear speakers powered by two subwoofers (using the TV as the centre channel). This enables a full home theatre system to be deployed without additional amplification or audio decoding.

Set up is aided with pre-loaded with three crossover frequency settings for the various Loewe speaker options. The acoustic settings of the sub can be adjusted individually to compensate for the unit’s room location, be it in free space, close to a wall or in a corner.
