Lithe Audio has launched an active in-ceiling wireless speaker, compatible with Apple Airplay. This all-in-one solution promises easy installation, plus multiroom support, with no requirement for separate amplification. The speaker features a 60W (2 x 30w) amplifier and comes with a dedicated app that has Spotify Connect, Deezer, TIDAL and vTuner radio enabled.
Up to 30 speakers can be connected for a full multiroom audio experience. The app will save user settings for individual zones or can play Party Mode, with allo speakers used simultaneously. It operates on the 2.4Ghz band. The speaker is DLNA and UPnP compatible, and so can stream music from NAS devices, but also has a phono line in, if you want to hardwire an external source.
The system can be configured for mono use or stereo output (by running a speaker cable to a second in-ceiling speaker); different volume levels can be selected when operating in multiroom mode.
Build quality appears high. The woofer is a 165mm Kevlar woven cone, supported by a 90mm titanium tweeter. The unit measures 230 x 100mm, and requires a hole cut to 210mm. The bezel-less design protrudes 3mm from the ceiling. The magnetic grille covers can be easily for cleaning or painted to better blend in with interior design.
Pricing is keen. The model retails for £330 singularly, or £400 a pair.
