Hollywood major Lionsgate is lining up to support Dolby with a new slate of content mastered in Dolby Vision HDR with Dolby Atmos audio for the home entertainment market. Titles will be released through OTT streaming services and, presumably 4K Blu-ray, although the press announcement does not specifically mention the new disc format.

While its combined Dolby Vision and Atmos releases have yet to be announced, Lionsgate is responsible for Netflix original Orange is the New Black, as well as Nashville. Lionsgate movies include the Divergent series, John Wick and Sicario.

Currently only LG offers Dolby Vision TV support in the UK. Unlike HDR10, Dolby Vision features dynamic metadata which controls HDR (High Dynamic Range) picture parameters on a frame by frame basis.

“Dolby’s commitment to enabling spectacular experiences is realized through this collaboration that combines our industry-leading audiovisual technologies and Lionsgate’s incredible pipeline of exciting titles,” enthused Dolby’s content solutions VP Curt Behlmer

“We remain committed to being at the forefront of expanding and enriching the home entertainment experience for our audiences by incorporating state-of-the-art technologies,” said Lionsgate Worldwide Home Entertainment President Ron Schwartz. “We’re proud to partner with our friends at Dolby to master titles in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, giving consumers the opportunity to experience their favorite Lionsgate movies in an entirely new way.”
