Linn has launched a new iteration of its celebrated all-in-one Majik music system. Immediately replacing its predecessor, the 2020 update embraces a slicker design, and boasts an improved feature specification based on a more powerful processing platform.

Linn has gone all out to make this new Majik DSM an entertainment hub able to cater with all manner of analogue, digital and wireless sources.

Connections included four HDMI 2.0 4K-compatible inputs, one with ARC, USB, a flexible analogue input configurable for either Moving Magnet (for turntables) or Line Level (other analogue sources).

The phono stage uses a hybrid architecture derived from Linn’s reference Urika II phono stage, which combines digital and analogue processing to more precisely implement the RIAA curve, for accurate vinyl reproduction. There’s also 6.5mm headphone jack on the front panel with the integrated headphone amplifier. Wi-Fi is built-in.

The new design features six customisable smart buttons, which can be configured for any audio source, be it a specific album, radio station or streaming service, or turntable.

There’s also a larger, higher res monochromatic display. In addition to the supplied remote control, the system can also be driven by Linn’s dedicated apps (Linn App and Kazoo).

Beneath the lid there’s an upgraded DAC, new digital volume control and refined amplification. The DAC architecture is derived from Linn’s industry-leading Katalyst technology, with improved upsampling, lower noise and an ultra-low jitter clock for greater timing accuracy.

The Linn-designed Class D power amplifiers boast lower noise and distortion, and more efficient signal conversion. Installation is still aided by Linn’s unique Space Optimisation technology.

The full Majik System (Majik DSM partnered with a Majik LP12 turntable and Majik speakers) isn’t just a complete audiophile solution, it can also be personalised.

Customers can choose any high gloss colour finish for their speakers and LP12 plinth. Whether that’s a shade from a favourite shirt or from a best-loved album cover, Linn can match any colour for the perfect personalised finish.

Majik DSM will appeal to both first-time hi-fi buyers seeking simplicity and authenticity, as well as existing customers who want high-end hi-fi in more rooms, suggests Linn. Whether as a dedicated music system in the living room, or as a second room system where there are other home entertainment sources, it offers audiophile performance streaming from a dedicated one box solution.

“With the brand new, next generation Majik DSM, we have the perfect one box solution to outperform the competition and offer the ideal first step into authentic hi-fi,” says Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn Managing Director. “It remains a powerful combination of network music player, pre-amp and power amp in a single enclosure, and this update gives it a unique combination of connectivity features to transform the sound from every source.”

The Majik DSM sells for £2950. A full Majik System, including special finish Majik LP12 and Majik 109 speakers, comes in at £7650.
