LINDY Electronics has begun shipping a low cost HDMI extender, able to route 1080p video, multi-channel audio and two-way IR control between devices up to a maximum distance of 40m, over CAT6 cable.
The Extender Pro kit comprises a standard transmitter and receiver, plus IR repeaters. TX and RX units are connected via HDMI to the source and receiving display in the usual manner. The system is 3D signal compatible.
Designed to be robust, both units feature sturdy metal casing and are HDCP and DVI compliant; the transmitter has an EDID copy function. When transmission over the full distance is required, the manufacturer recommends that shielded CAT6 PIMF cable be used to protect against single degradation. Non-shielded cable is recommended only for distances of 20m, using a1080p source. Product manager Andrew Ingram notes: "Installations over long distances are always fraught with potential problems and 3D signals have increased the complexity - this latest extender to our range is an easy, low cost solution."
The LINDY HDMI Cat6 Extender Pro has a retail price of £155. It can be ordered now from www.lindy.co.uk.
