LG is expanding its Music Flow wireless multiroom system with speakers large and small, plus additional functionality. At the LG 2015 Product Showcase, held this week at Mercedes-Benz World, it unveiled a high-end soundbar with Music Flow functionality built in. The HS9 (pictured above) claims a cumulative 700w power output, with 7.1 front facing speakers and a wireless subwoofer. As part of the brand’s wireless audio eco system, it can function as an addressable zone for music streaming. What’s more, the HS9 can be partnered with two H4 mini Music Flow speakers to create a multichannel home theatre experience when used in Home Cinema mode. LG also unveiled a battery-powered portable Bluetooth Music Flow speaker, known as the P7.

Interestingly, LG also announced a Blu-ray player with Music Flow functionality. In addition to the usual raft of BD features, the incoming BP450 can stream CD audio to any zone of a connected Music Flow system.

“Music Flow is our step into the multiroom audio market. I say step, but that makes it sound tentative. This is a full-blown cannonball into the deep end of the pool,” says LG HE product manager Robert Taylor. “The storyline for Music Flow is in its versatility. Use a Music Flow speaker in different environments and it becomes a different product, a new user experience.”

Taylor adds that Music Flow will also support Google Cast interaction. “We’ll be talking more about this in May,” he told Inside CI. “Google Cast audio is a new service being launched by Google that will do for audio what Chrome Cast did for screen mirroring and video. Watch this space!”
