Onkyo has introduced two new budget stereo amplifiers, the A-9110 and A-9130 with integrated DAC. Both feature Onkyo’s Wide Range Amplification Technology (WRAT), built around a high-output EI transformer, two custom-made main audio capacitors, and discrete power transistors. The A-9110 is a 2 x50w (into 4 ohms) design, while the A-9130 offers 2 x 60w.

Connectivity includes phono line-level inputs (four for the A-9110, pictured below, and five for the A-9130, above), plus a discrete MM phono stage. The A-9130 adds coaxial and optical digital audio inputs (useful for a TV audio connection), with decoding by a Wolfson WM8718 D/A converter; 192 kHz/24-bit audio is supported. The digital audio board automatically shut down when an analogue input signal is detected, to reduce potential interference.

Remote Interactive inputs on the rear panel allow unified system control with compatible Onkyo CD transports, digital tuners, and network streamers.

Features of note  include Phase Matching Bass Boost, a loudness technology that aligns the phase of low and mid-band frequencies above 300 Hz, and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, for improved fidelity when listening at low volume.

Both models sport a 1.6mm metal chassis to dampen vibration, and have line-level outputs, subwoofer outputs, and non-magnetic speaker binding posts encased in transparent plastic. The A-9130 also includes a direct main power-amp input for connection of an external pre-amplifier.

The A-9110 retails at £230, and the A-9130 at £350.
