Sony has announced three new 4K UHD projectors, including a high-end model using a laser light source. The VPL-VW760ES (pictured above) has a light output rated at 2000 lumens, and will retail around £15000. Image quality in a blacked out room at IFA 2017 looked superb.

Joining it are the VPL-VW360ES and VPL-VW260ES. Both offer 1,500 lumens of brightness, with the VPL-VW360ES an advanced dynamic iris giving 200,000:1 contrast. The cheaper VPL-VW260ES drops the dynamic iris. Integrators have a choice of either black or white cabinet finishes. The projectors have a 2.06x zoom and wide lens shift to simplify installation.

All the UHD newcomers utilize Sony SXRD panels offering 4,096 x 2,160 resolution and are HDR10 and HLG compatible. Intriguingly, Thomas Issa, Product Manager at Sony Professional Europe (pictured above), told Inside CI that he thought the projectors could be upgraded to Dolby Vision, although he qualified that by saying no firmware plans had been announced.
