The grammy-awarding Dolby Atmos Music live concert from Kraftwerk, 3-D The Catalogue, will debut on Tidal HiFi in the immersive audio format on July 3.
It’s part of a wider range of digital catalogue releases from the innovative german electronic pioneers. The stereo version of 3-D Der Katalog, the German language edition, will be made available on digital platforms worldwide, along with the rarely heard native language releases of Trans Europa Express, Die Mensch-Maschine, Computerwelt, Techno Pop and The Mix albums.
3-D The catalogue has been available in multiple formats, with releases on Blu-ray, vinyl and CD. However, the arrival of 3-D The catalogue in Dolby Atmos on Tidal is a significant boost for the format, and will doubtless prove an invaluable demo track for home cinema suppliers, and enthusiasts. While Atmos is widely recognised as a cinema sound format, this audio only iteration has yet to reach a wider audience.
Dolby Atmos music can be streamed from a Tidal app on a media player over HDMI to any compatible Atmos home entertainment hardware, within a standard Dolby Digital Plus bitstream.
The multichannel release will also debut on the Amazon Music HD platform, although playback is currently limited to a single speaker, Amazon’s own Echo Studio speaker.
Kraftwerk were formed in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider, and transformed perceptions of contemporary music, mixing electronic bears with techno and synth-pop.
Their 3-D The Catalogue 12345678 live show has played multiple festivals and art museums, beginning with a performance at the Venice Biennale in 2005.
