KEF has introduced a second generation of its acclaimed LS50 wireless speaker. The LS50 Wireless II combines the brand’s Music Integrity Engine DSP processing with a new 100W class A/B amplifier to drive the tweeter and 280W class D amplifier for the mid/bass driver.
The system supports 24bit/96kHz resolution wirelessly, and there is an option to hardwire with a supplied cable to achieve 24bit/192kHz resolution.

Using the KEF Connect app, you can stream Tidal, Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer, Internet Radio stations and podcasts. And you can stream directly with Spotify Connect.

There’s support for streaming music files up to 24bit/384kHz, as well as MQA Decoding and DSD256. The LS50II is also AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast compliant.

In addition to Bluetooth streaming, there are HDMI, analogue stereo, and both optical and coaxial digital audio inputs. The speaker also employs the latest iteration of KEF’s patented Uni-Q technology. This includes Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) and a reworked motor system reducing distortion.

A joint development with the Acoustic Metamaterials Group, MAT synthetic material has the capacity to absorb all unwanted sound radiating from the rear of the driver, reducing distortion and enabling the prevention of audio distraction.

KEF describes the material as ‘an acoustic black hole, absorbing 99 per cent of unwanted sound.’ More traditional approaches to absorption usually only deliver around 60 per cent absorption.

Integrators can install the LS50 Wireless II, using a dedicated S2 Floor Stand which features a top plate with secure fixing points and integrated cable management system
