Reflecting growing interest in 2.35:1 aspect ratio home cinema systems, kaleidescape has introduced a native 'Scope mode which automatically optimises the system's user interface for the wider aspect ratio. Relying on video processing, rather than an anamorphic lens, the enhancement comes to the system via a KEAOS software update.

The upshot is a movie covers view that offers twelve more films, and a movie list view that shows the title, actors, director, genre, year of release, certificate rating and runtime all at once.

The system is a boon for integrators who specify Philips 21:9 aspect ratio TVs and install 'Scope ratio screens; it's also a must have enhancement for serious movie lovers.

Michael Malcolm, founder of Kaleidescape, believes that with 'Scope screens increasingly favored in high-end installs, the new CinemaScape mode "provides an unrivalled experience for these installations, with seamless transitions between content of different aspect ratios and a user interface that takes advantage of the entire screen."

Also new for Kaleidescape users is an iPad contol app. Designed to enhance the navigation of a Kaleidescape collection, it offers improved search functionality with filters for actor, director and genre. You can also use it to monitor what's playing out at various rooms connected to the system - helpful if children have access to the server.
