Humax has unveiled the H7, its first Android TV-based set-top box, hailing it as the most advanced STB PVR yet. Under the hood is the latest Broadcom solution with a 24K DMIPS CPU, which the brand says makes it the fastest STB it has ever produced. It also offers Wi-Fi 6 (11.ax) wireless connectivity for 4k video streaming and cloud gaming.

The H7 also claims to be the world’s first Android TV device that supports AV1, the latest high-definition video codec, along with HDR10. The H7 will have access to apps on the Google Play store, ensuring a wide number of Catch-up TV and OTT providers.

Moving to an Android platform will also enable the box maker to roll out faster firmware updates and provide a platform for related technologies. Building on this concept, Humax says it plans on introducing sound and voice integrated IoT hardware.

Humax will roll out the H7 in Europe and Asia latter this year, and will be available in various harddrive configurations.

2020 is looking like a big year for the brand. Humax has recently signed a contract to develop a next-generation PVR solution for a major telecommunications operator in North America. It’s also announced Humax E2E solutions, able to deliver Android TV devices to any operator in any region as a complete platform offering.

Tailoring to each market and individual customer requirements, Humax will provide Humax’s HATS (broadcasting middleware), HAVIS (voice assistant solution), HAMS (back-end management and analysis solutions for operators), and Humax’s own UI/UX for an operator tier program.

“With this innovative Android TV product and our Humax E2E solutions, Humax can quickly supply products that offer a variety of content and services to our customers, paving the way to lead the Android TV OS market,” says Jeff Kim, EVP of Worldwide Sales at Humax.
