Connectivity UK, supplier of HD over IP products to the trade, has been chosen by Everything Everywhere, the group formed by the merger of Orange and T-Mobile in the UK, to providing a multimedia installation solution for its rapidly expanding retail stores.
Connectivity UK's MD Chris Pinder described the project as "a fantastic high-profile contract to have won."
The installation, produced in partnership with Fujitsu UK, uses 2G Just Add Power HD over IP technology to give sales staff iPad control over the content being shown on various HD displays and videowalls in store.
The new 2G HD over IP solution offers a significant improvement in picture quality to the 1G Just Add Power solution. The distributed hi-def video is indistinguishable from the original source, up to 1080p, and comes with stereo audio. Consequently, while 1G works over a 100BT network architecture, 2G requires a 1000BT platform.
Sales staff can use their tablets to instantly switch between various HDMI content sources, from demonstrations of micro-HDMI enabled mobile handsets, to Blu-ray players and Apple TV as well as an ad-server. The custom iPad control GUI and software was written by Janus Technology and uses a Control4 HC200 processer in each store.
The completed solution can be seen at the recently opened Everything Everywhere showcase at Westfield Centre in Stratford. It will be rolled across 100 more outlets in the UK.
Chris Pinder says this is a massive validation for Just Add Power HD over IP. "Fujistu came to us with a challenging brief where quality, reliability and ease of use were paramount. With HD over IP we were able to provide a pre-configured one-product solution for each store that they could install themselves. It's a special feeling when a technology giant like Fujitsu is impressed by your solution… so impressed that they commit to it for 100 stores"
