Denon has added a low-cost, 4K-ready 5.1 AV receiver to its X Series line-up. The £299 AVR-X540BT lacks 3D audio decoding (sticking with standard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio support), but ramps up Bluetooth streaming convenience.  The receiver can remember up to eight paired Bluetooth devices, so once connected, an entire family can easily access the receiver.

Denon also offers control from any Bluetooth device, with its 500 Series Remote app. Functions include On/Off, Volume Up/Down, Mute and Source Selection. The free app is available for Android and iOS.

The receiver has five HDMI inputs, or which three support HDCP 2.2 UHD sources like 4K Blu-ray and games consoles. There’s also a USB port on the front fascia for music file playback (MP3, WMA, FLAC and AAC codes are supported) and charging portable devices.Power output is rated at 130W, and there’s provision for two subwoofers.
