DemoPad is introducing a down-sized version of its Centro-8 processor. The new Centro-8M (for mini), is small enough to be located behind a wall-mounted TV, and is intended for smaller installs or single room projects. The unit (pictured above, as seen at the recent Alltrade expo) sports three IR emitter ports, and one receiver, and acts as an IP gateway for sending IR commands. It can also be used with an optional RS232 to USB cable adaptor for additional system control.

The Centro-8 Mini uses the same Linux server software found in the big Centro-8 unit, and can similarly handle macro commands. In addition to Centrocontrol HD and HDL app support, DemoPad says it has also developed Amazon Echo skill support, allowing sophisticated voice control of connected IoT devices. A firmware update will add IFTTT support.

One novel benefit of the Centro-8M is that installers can pair the system with household remotes so no additional dedicated keypad is required by the consumer. The first templates available will be for Sky and VirginMedia TiVo remotes. This allows familiar handsets to control everything from smart lighting and climate to AV systems, says DemoPad’s Mike Cain.  “DemoPad is an open system. You really can can use it to control anything.” A new version of the DemoPad designer software will allow installers to customize these new features for projects. The Centro-8M will sell for £99.
