A new face recognition-enabled Intercom has made its UK debut, via audiovisual and security distributor CIE. The R29C from Akuvox, a newcomer to the UK security technology market, adds a next gen spin to the standard door entry system.

Akuvox is a specialist in the world of IP intercoms, access control and telephony equipment. Established globally, the company is now expanding into Europe.

In place of a traditional keypad, the R29C has a 7-inch full colour touchscreen that incorporates a secure infrared face recognition system, for secure, hands-free operation.

"It even offers QR code recognition for organising temporary access for ‘one time’ access for external visitors, such as delivery drivers and service engineers..."

Hailed as the first use of the technology integrated into an intercom device, the R29C automatically compares a visitor’s face with a database of enrolled faces and perform automatic match notification to grant access.

It even offers QR code recognition for organising temporary access for ‘one time’ access for external visitors, such as delivery drivers and service engineers.

Typically, residents and building managers will generate a QR code from the Akuvox SmartApp for any visitor to use on their mobile device which will allow entry to the building, or specific area, on a limited use/fixed time basis.

With these features available as standard, the distributor says the R29C is one of the most advanced intercom available on the market.

The R29C supports NFC, RFID and Bluetooth contactless via Smartphone, ID card or keyfob. The intercom is also IP65 rated making it suitable for external gate systems and high impact areas. This advanced door entry device also supports ONVIF open standard for effective integration with other 3rd party IP systems and devices such as IP CCTV cameras and NVRs.

“Akuvox is a new brand in our security portfolio and we are really excited to be kicking off our relationship with the UK launch of the R29C,” says Chris Edwards, Marketing Director of CIE Group. “It is a genuinely groundbreaking product that pushes the boundaries of intercom technology into new and emerging areas. These new features, such as facial recognition, are not a case of style-over-substance, but have been carefully developed in the interest of end-user benefit and functionality.”

He adds: “We're looking forward to establishing the brand in the UK market based on this attractive value proposition.”
