Chord Electronics has introduced Poly, a portable streamer that partners the brand's Mojo DAC to wirelessly stream music from a range of devices. Intriguingly, the unit can be used at home, to update an existing audio system, as well as on the go.

The Poly also functions as a standalone High-Res Audio player, able to play songs from an Micro SD card slot. There’s support for PCM up to 768kHz and DSD64 to DSD256. File compatibility includes ACC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, OGG VORBIS, ALAC, WMA and MP3.

Poly connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks, including mobile hotspots when on the go, and has an auto-connect function for seamless playback. It supports Bluetooth 4.1, AirPlay and DLNA connectivity, via a third party DLNA app. The device also features its own hotspot mode.

The Poly plugs into the Mojo DAC (pictured above; it cannot be used in isolation. A leather case provides protection and rigidity. In addition to NAS access, there’s also support for Roon subscribers. Playback is via Mojo’s twin headphone outputs. To connect to a living room system, you will need a 3.5mm to stereo phono adaptor.

Full smartphone control using everyday apps supports music playback whether streaming or playing music from the Micro SD. Upcoming firmware updates promise native Spotify and Tidal integration, as well as Chromecast functionality. A dedicated Poly app, GoFigure, will be released to assist with network set-up and device configuration settings.

A rechargeable Lithium Polymer 2200mAh battery offers up to nine hours of playback, from a four-hour charge.

The Poly, which has been CNC-machined from solid aluminium billet, uses British design and technology and has been made in Britain. It retails for £499.
