Over 120 industry professionals attended the latest CEDIA Tech Forum, held this week at the British Library. The event provided sponsors Aldous Systems, Anthem AV Solutions, AWE, Genesis, Gira, Habitech, Loxone, Lutron, Meridian, Orluna, Teleste and Wyrestorm a showcase for a wide variety of products.Training sessions included an insight into LED lighting and a guide to Home Cinema Solutions.

Following a full day of education, over 80 members also attended the CEDIA AGM, which provided a detailed review of its education, marketing, membership growth and finance activities throughout the year. 128 companies have joined the trade body this year, bringing its total up to 714, an all time high. International membership continues to grow, with the EMEA office now representing members across 40 countries.

Significantly, CEDIA also revealed it’s recognised by City & Guilds. This means that those who successfully completed either a Smart Home Technician or a Smart Home Designer pathway will receive a joint certification from CEDIA and City & Guilds and become accredited within this area.

CEDIA also revealed that it’s working with the British Standards Institution to produce a British Standard PAS (Publicly Available Specification) for Smart Home wiring. The aim, it says, is to turn the CEDIA Smart Home Recommended Wiring Guidelines into a British Standard.

The London showcase followed CEDIA’s corporate rebrand at the Dallas Expo. CEDIA EMEA also announced an investment with international marketing agency, Purestone, to push its message further into the specifier and consumer markets in 2016 and beyond.

CEDIA concluded its AGM by revealing a new Board of Directors. Four new members have joined CEDIA’s board, including Philip Turner (Philharmonic Audio Visual, UK), Sawan Nichani (MacBee, India), Rob Sutherland (Inspired Dwellings, UK) and Melanie Malcolm (Bespoke Home Cinemas, UK).  Re-elected members, Laura Lazzerini (Studio LgL, Italy), Hamish Neale (Barco Residential, UK) and Tom Butler (Artcoustic, UK) join Kris Hogg, CEDIA Chair, Giles Sutton (James + Giles, UK) and Christiaan Beukes (Sphere Custom Design and Installation, South Africa) to complete the CEDIA EMEA Board of Directors.

Speaking on the event, Robert Sullivan, from Electric String, declared that the body had “raised the bar this year. We found the Tech Forum to be both informative and constructive. The event gave us the opportunity to have face to face conversations with manufacturers, explaining some of the issues we as installers have on site and heard from the horse’s mouth what new technologies were around the corner, which is always good to know.”
