In a surprise move, CEDIA has acquired The Cinema Designer system design software, and renamed it The CEDIA Designer. The new look package will be demonstrated at Cedia Expo for the first time.

CEDIA will offer its members preferential access to the package. All CEDIA members will automatically gain a free subscription to use level I, the Media Room design software, worth £450, as part of their membership. The three remaining tiers, Media Room Pro, Cinema Room, and Cinema Room Pro, are discounted for members.

Tabatha O’Connor, CEDIA President, describes TCD as “”an exceptional home theatre and media room design tool,” adding: “It has helped many integration firms save time and money in the design process while ensuring an outstanding client experience. Manufacturers like it because they can feel confident that their products are being specified correctly, with appropriate products being applied to appropriate-sized rooms.”

Developed by award-winning home theatre designer Guy Singleton, cloud-based TCD is able to quickly create a technically perfect home cinema or media room design with full documentation, a scale rendering of the finished theatre, and a 3D CAD model.

Adhering to the CTA/CEDIA CEB-22 and CEB-23 Home Theatre Audio and Video Recommended Practices, the software specifies the location of loudspeakers, screen, seating, and projector. It also provides amplification and processor requirements and acoustic treatments.

Singleton and the team behind the software will continue as consultants working on product development and sales. “We created this software specifically for the CEDIA channel so being able to offer it to the members as a benefit, and more broadly to the entire industry, is a win for all of us,” comments Singleton.
