BT Sport will start broadcasting 4k in HDR with the UEFA Champions League Final on May 29. The match will be available only through the BT Sport app, for the Xbox One, Samsung Smart TVs and Apple TV, as well as mobiles and tablets. However, the 4k HDR service, hailed as the first of its kind in the world, will not be available to viewers tuning in directly via a set top box from BT TV, Virgin Media, Sky, PlusNet or TalkTalk. A roll-out to these TV boxes will come later.
BT Sport’s new HDR service for the BT Sport App, with picture quality of up to 4K resolution, will cost from £5 per month.
Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer brands, said: “BT continues to offer our customers unrivalled choice, with the best content, the smartest devices, and the latest technology, through partnerships with the world’s most innovative companies. The launch of HDR maintains BT Sport’s leadership in bringing fans the very best pictures and sound following its debut as Europe’s first 4K broadcaster in 2015 and its worldwide debut of Dolby Atmos sound in 2017.”
BT will also be making the UEFA Champions League Final and UEFA Europa League Final available free to watch on the BT Sport App for mobile or TV, on Virgin and on the BT Sport YouTube channel, as well as online at www.btsport.com/final.
Tomos Grace, Head of Sport for YouTube, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "We admire BT's decision to make the livestream of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League Finals available for free on multiple screens and in the best technology possible. Last year's finals broke records on YouTube as millions tuned in to watch the finals on BT Sport's channel and we expect this year to be bigger still."
The UEFA Champions League Final will be available in HD HDR on the BT Sport App via these devices/platforms:
* Mobile
* Tablet
* Chromecast Ultra
* Xbox One S and X
* Samsung Smart TV (2015 models or more recent)
* Apple TV 4K
