Bowers & Wilkins has refreshed its best-selling 600 Series loudspeaker range. The new line-up drops the iconic yellow Kevlar driver and adopts the brand’s Continuum Cone, as used on its step-up 700 and 800 Series models. It also features an updated version of its Decoupled Double Dome tweeter technology.
The new 600 Series comprises two standmounters, the compact 607 and slightly larger 606, plus the 603 3-way floorstander. The latter boasts an FST midrange driver using the Continuum cone, plus dual paper-cone bass drivers. The group is joined by a new centre speaker, the HTM6, which features two 130mm bass drivers.
The 600 Series also have improved cosmetics. The speaker grilles are magnetic, so no more speaker pegs, and all ports have been moved from the front of the speakers to the rear. Consequently, the new 607 bookshelf speaker is a little smaller than the 686 it replaces.
The 600 Series line features three subwoofers: the ASW608, ASW610 and ASW610XP, in 8-inch and 10-inch 200w/500w configurations
Inside CI was invited to a preview of the new 600 Series, in which they were compared with their predecessors. The new speakers sounded spectacular, and they certainly look more fashionable.
“The 600 Series is the perfect entry point into the Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio experience,” says Richard Campbell, Chief Revenue Officer at Bowers & Wilkins. “The new 600 Series embodies the original ethos of John Bowers’ mission to deliver best sound quality and to set new standards for audio performance.”
