Specialist personal music brand Astell&Kern has launched a Bluetooth speaker, the Acro BE100. 24-bit capable, the new model supports 24-bit aptX HD (48khz) and LDAC (96khz) codecs.
Commonly, Bluetooth speakers use the DAC embedded into the Bluetooth chipset, however on this model, the BE100 uses a dedicated DAC based on the technology from Astell&Kern's highly regarded portable digital audio players. A 50ps clock is used to minimise jitter.
Available in white or black finishes, the BE100 has a distinctive angled design, with a metal grille and faux leather finish. Up top, an aluminium knurling-patterned knob offers fine volume control. The speaker is a substantial 261 x 164 x 171mm, and weighs 3.2kg.
The Acro BE100 delivers stereo via a custom 4-inch Kevlar woofer and 1.5-inch silk dome tweeters. A rear port extends the speaker’s bass response, while sound-absorbing material inside the wooden cabinet reduces resonance by completely sealing the interior.
The amplifier is rated at 55W, with Dynamic range control used to protect the speaker if it hits maximum power. There’s also a 3.5mm AUX input, which obviously enables the connection of Astell&Kern’s portable digital audio players and similar devices.
The Astell&Kern Acro BE100 sells for £449, and will be available in December.
