Hi-fi and home cinema specialist Arcam has expanded its AV offerings with the AV950, a high-end pre-processor which builds on technologies introduced in its award-winning AVR750 receiver. Arcam managing director Charlie Brennan describes the newcomer as Arcam's highest performing pre-processor ever. "It delivers a level of sonic detail and emotional connection that takes the listener to the very heart of the cinematic or musical experience," he enthuses, adding:" Installers will also appreciate the unit's compatibility with current and emerging technologies, such as 4K, the range of control options available and the product's inherent reliability."

The eagerly anticipated AV950 is nothing if not versatile. Installation is simplified by IP, RS232 and 12v trigger control options. There's auto room calibration room correction too. The AV950 sports seven HDMI inputs and two outputs, plus legacy component (x3) and composite (x4) inputs, and can upscale all sources to 4K resolution. It has six digital audio inputs (two coaxial, four optical), plus an integrated radio receiver.

Codec support covers all the main bases, and includes Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete. The pre-processor will also network stream from uPnP audio servers, play tracks from local USB devices and has a 6v PSU for the brand's rSeries accessories, like the rBlink which can be used to add aptX Bluetooth streaming to a system. The AV950 is designed to be used with the brand's P777 seven-channel amp.

The AV950 retails for £6,000. Installers can contact Arcam direct to arrange training, a demonstration or technical support. For more on Arcam's range of home cinema and hi-fi hardware, visit our partner page here.
