Screen Innovations has introduced a commercial version of its ambient-light-rejecting Short Throw (ST) screen material. Named the Solo Pro ST, the screen that can be carried and installed in 5-minutes by a single person, says the company.

The use of SI’s Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) Short Throw material is said to overcome a variety of barriers that affect traditional two-piece projection installations.

Typical user short throw, high ambient light scenarios include conference rooms, classrooms, and small meeting rooms. The Solo’s lithium-rechargeable and low-voltage options negate the need for electricians, says SI, enabling two-piece projection nearly anywhere.

The material uses uses a microscopic lenticular optical technology, with an ultra short throw projector is located directly below the screen, at throw ratios as close as 0.1 times the image width. Screen Innovations says the material can reproduce 8k resolution while rejecting up to 90 per cent of the ambient-light in the room.

“The extraordinary Short Throw screen material is very difficult to work with due to its optical qualities. It took almost two years to perfect a method to manipulate it to function in a motorized system,” says Tom Nugent, SI’s Chief of Material Technology.
