Monitor Audio has expanded its Airstream wireless family with the S200, a compact Wi-Fi-enabled active speaker designed for stereo and multiroom use, when using NAS, PC or streaming audio sources.

Platform compatibility is broad, with Apple Airplay, Monitor Audio’s proprietary Airstream Direct, Bluetooth aptX and DLNA all supported.  File compatibility includes AAC, ALAC, MP3 AAC, ALAC, MP3 and FLAC. Apple iOS devices can be connected to the S200 directly, via the USB/charge input; for other local sources there’s a 3.5mm stereo jack.

The speaker features a stylish, curvaceous design and is made from a mineral-filled polymer. Within are four specialised drivers, configured in an angled cluster comprising a proprietary gold dome C-CAM tweeter flanked on angled baffles by dual 3-inch CAM metal cone bass drivers and a rear-firing Auxiliary Bass Radiator. The C-CAM drivers are powered by three separate digital amplifiers optimised through DSP. The bass drivers receive 2 x 25W, with the tweeter getting 15W. Frequency response is rated at 80Hz – 25kHz.

The S200 is available in white or black, finished with toughened glass end trims. It can be shelf, table-top or wall-mounted via an optional MASM (MA Speaker Mount) ¼-inch UNC mounting kits. Firmware updates are automated over the network. The Airstream S200 retails for £200 apiece.
