Monitor Audio has introduced the AWC range of all-weather architectural speakers. Designed for demanding environments, they can be deployed in the garden or poolside, in a bathroom or on a boat.

There are four models in the range – AWC-265, AWC-265T2, AWC-280 and AWC-280T2 - with two driver sizes - 6.5- and 8-inch, both complemented by single speaker stereo (T2) variants. These single speaker stereo options can be used where the room configuration doesn’t allow for conventional stereo or space is at a premium.

The front of each speaker is said to be impervious to water and salt spray, while the rear is encased to resist dust. Gold plated push terminals are protected by a silicon rubber guard. A rubber membrane provides a waterproof seal between the speaker and the wall or ceiling.

But while the design is rugged, performance is said to be refined. The distinctive black speaker features a 1-inch/25mm Gold C-CAM driver at its centre. Tweeter level attenuation can be set prior to installation.

When it comes to installation, the company’s Tri-Grip fixing system is said to be easier to install than conventional clamping schemes, with three times the surface area of a conventional fixing. The trimless grille is made from high-grade stainless steel and fixed using non-ferrous Samarium Cobalt non-corroding magnets.

The AWC-280 and AWC-280T2 will be available from September. The AWC-265 and AWC-265T2 are shipping now. Retail prices start at £225 each.
