Victorian townhouse comes from the future

There's more to this Victorian townhouse than a street view might suggest. Behind the classic fascade is a completely renovated and modernised property featuring an extensive home automation and entertainment system designed and installed by Kinektd.

The home owners of this astonishing five bedroom property required a whole home heating, lighting and AV system that could be controlled centrally via iOS mobile devices. All of course, all the entertainment and control tech had to be sensitively integrated into the building's classic interior.

The results are spectacular. Standout features include programmable lighting provided by iLight, a largely invisible sound system, courtesy of Amina plaster-in speakers, plus climate control. Despite its complexity, the entire system can driven by a Control4 remote, or iPad Mini with Control 4 interface.

Covering the property itself was no mean feat. The building benefits from extensive outside space; there's a modernistic 45ft garden coupled to a ground floor terrace off a reception room. It also boasts a jaw-dropping 1,000 bottle wine cellar, which is both temperature and humidity controlled. The cinema features a 7.2 surround sound, with sound insolation. Here four Amina invisible speakers are used for rear channel duties, with a trio of Bowers & Wilkins in-walls across the front soundstage. These are supported by two in-wall B&W subwoofers. Video is delivered from a 3D Epson projector onto a Screen Research fixed screen. Of course this space isn't just used for movies, the PlayStation also gets a workout!

All five bedrooms benefit from air conditioning and integrated AV. The Master bedroom has his and hers bath and shower rooms and a 22-inch Tilevision TV. Wetroom audio is delivered by Amina plaster-in speakers.

At the heart of the property is the Plant Room, nerve centre for ventilation, plant, electrical and mechanical control. A 44u Middle Atlantic rack houses a Control4 HC800 Processor and Audio Matrix; Rotyel amplification for the subs; a Wyrestorm 6x6 matrix HD distribution switch; Draytek router and 24 port switch; Apple TV and Sky+ HD satellite system.

Understandably the client was delighted with the results, offering plenty of praise for Knektd's installation team, particularly when it came to post installation support, saying: "Knektd helped me with any queries or further requirements. They have also carried out a follow-up visits to ensure my system is fully effective and functioning."
