Home automation and landscape gardening may seem unlikely bed fellows, but new Internet of Things start-up Green IQ, believes there's plenty of scope and has launched a Smart Garden Hub Stateside. There's a Control4 driver for the device, the Hub can also be used in conjunction with a Crestron module.

The wireless irrigation controller manufacturer, hopes the device will herald a smart garden revolution. Now single home owners, as well as building managers can automate and monitor irrigation schedules for landscape gardens, golf courses and the like, through the use of intelligent soil and moisture sensors and hyper-local weather information. The main value to end users, says the brand, is a 50 per cent saving on water consumption.

Using the brand's dashboard and mobile app, users can use the system to spot potential leakages and sprinkler defects or insufficient water flow. The GreenIQ connected garden ecosystem can be integrated with Netamo's Weather Station and Rain Guage hardware, as well as plant sensors from Koubachi, Plantlink and Parrot's Flower Power. The system can also be used to control a garden lighting system, or be controlled via Amazon's Alexa smart assistant. The brand says it wants to make outdoor spaces smarter.

The Smart Garden Hub was recently recognized as a finalist at the 3C Smart Cities Challenge for its innovative approach to the connected garden and positive impact on water conservation. The competition was held in Tel Aviv with cooperation from the Brazilian government, Italian group, Planet Idea, the Tel Aviv University center for entrepreneurship, Startau, and the Israeli innovation center.
