Now if you are like me and love technology based around a home cinema project, you are going to love this install from Smartcomm. The finish to this install is stunning, particularly the use of LED fibre optic lighting to create a star-field  ceiling, backed up by perfect scallops of light washing the walls.

The client's brief to Smartcomm was for a high end, eight seat cinema room capable of stunning video and audio reproduction. The room also had to look fantastic; a space they would be proud to show to their friends. To help maintain a modern, minimalistic feel, the client was keen that any equipment be subtly installed and unobtrusive.

The client already had an initial idea of how they envisioned the room: the requested décor was a style similar to that of a high end boutique hotel or nightclub; not extravagant but certainly in a class of its own. Smartcomm indulged with use of different fabrics such as leather and alcantara for the acoustic panels which surround the room and conceal both the entrance doors. Hand-turned, matt black handrails with glass infills compliment the plush interior.

Advanced tech has been used throughout. An Ekey Finger scanner prevents unauthorised use of the theatre. This clever compact device is equipped with a line sensor, requiring you to swipe your finger rather than pressing. Fingerprints are not left, eliminating the risk of misuse.

The master control for the room's components sits in the TPMC-3X; a handheld Wi-Fi Touchpanel from Crestron. This controls all aspects of the cinema, from automatically adjusting the screen's aspect ratio to selecting sources, which includes Sky+ HD and a Kaleidescape system.

The centrepiece of the cinema is a Screen Research 2:40:1 X-Mask 2 curved screen. The acoustically transparent 2.8 metre frame has been built with lateral masking; precision motors ensure total accuracy for the various masking positions, all controlled via the Crestron interface.

Delivering the images is a Digital Projection M-Vision projector.  In keeping with the client's request to maintain a clean interior, Smartcomm installed a mirror-kit projection system in the ceiling. When enabled, a discreet panel in the ceiling opens and the picture is reflected via electrically driven mirrors. As well as concealing the projector from view, this system dramatically reduces operating noise.

The cinema features Triad InWalls. Gold /6 LCR, Silver /4 Surround and Silver /15 Sub speakers have been used in a 7.2 configuration.

The room's luxurious style doesn't end with high-end AV; comfortable seating is provided in the form of some beautiful bespoke chairs, specially designed and produced for the client by Fortress Seating. The eight electric reclining home theatre seats have a premium leather finish and alcantara centre panels to match the walls.

The end result is a gorgeous room with stunning décor, imaginative lighting and a great audio visual system.
