Habitech has signed an exclusive distribution deal to handle the innovative Sire SS1 Sonos control processor. The UK-made, Linux-based SS1 acts as a dedicated bridge between Sonos hardware and third party control systems, resolving the often challenging scripting conflicts and processor overhead required for seamless control of Sonos via third party control solutions.

Habitech Brand Manager Daryl Brennan says: "A number of leading control systems have developed drivers to work with Sonos, but they have had problems processing the large UPnP conversations that Sonos creates. Sire's SS1 does all the hard work for them, bridging the protocols to promote enhanced integration and seamless control from a single unit."

The SS1 processor is a 1U rack-mount solution which provides integrators with a simple command line API. Sire also offers Crestron drivers in the form of a SIMPL module, xPanel and iPad UI. Crestron documentation and Sire API documentation are available with the modules from Habitech's website. Configuration and remote support are supplied through a web interface.

Sire control can be scaled up from a two to a thirty-two player environment involving the Sonos Play:3, Play:5, Connect:Amp, Connect and Playbar components. It's also compatible with older Sonos ZP90 and ZP120 products. Supported services include network share playlist compatibility, player zoning, transport controls, queue management, search available sources, Spotify integration and TuneIn integration. In addition, Sire for Sonos incorporates a number of features, configurable through Sire's web tool, designed to enhance Sonos' system functionality. These include album art caching, album art redirection using tiny URLS to reduce string lengths; album art resizing, track progress configurations for frequency; configurable music services, character set encoding support and string length management for Crestron. In development is Rhapsody and LastFM integration, along with the saving and customising of playlists.

Sire SS1 pre-production samples are now available for evaluation and a working system has been installed at Habitech's demo facilities at Alton, Hampshire. The SS1 has an SRP of £2,172 (excl VAT).
