Seemingly against the odds, the worldwide video projection market grew year-on-year by 6 per cent to 2.12 million units during Q4 2013, according to new research from Futuresource Consulting. The lift represents $2.63 billion in value. However in some territories this late surge wasn't enough to offset an annual decline.

In 2013, the EMEA quarterly performance posted a 4 per cent year-on-year volume growth to 702,000 units, although this wasn't enough to offset a year-on-year decline of 6 per cent. Eastern Europe enjoyed the biggest quarterly growth, with 151,000 units shipped during the quarter, a 12 per cent increase. The biggest lift came as the diversion of funding to build  infrastructure for the 2014 Winter Olympics ended, allowing Russia to post a 10 per cent YOY increase.

In Western Europe, 412,000 projectors shipped during the period, resulting in a growth of 3 per cent. The biggest markets were France and Germany, posting increases of 8 and 9 per cent respectively. Spain also had healthy numbers to report, with 33,900 projectors being shipped during the last quarter of 2013. It was a different story in the UK though, where the market contracted by 5 per cent as the number of channels supporting the projection category declined.

X75R MainThe Asia-Pacific market reported a 5 per cent year-on-year increase in projector shipments, for a total of 835,000 units, although annual totals contracted by 0.2 per cent. China remains the dominant player, with sales reaching 496,000 units during the quarter, an 8 per cent year-on-year increase. In Korea, demand for high brightness projectors soared, resulting in year-on-year growth of 38 per cent. The Middle East and Africa saw 1 per cent growth, with 139,000 units shipped. Across the United States, all market segments reported increased sales, resulting in YOY growth of 12 per cent.

In the UK custom install market, JVC and Epson remain the dominant brands. For more on Epson's product range, visit our partner page here. For more on JVC's 2014 home theatre line up, visit our partner page here.
