The UK's first Savant Experience show home has opened for business. The London-based demo facility, a joint venture between RGB Communications and WILKO Developments, shows how Apple devices can provide the user interface for an entire home automation solution using Savant's SmartSystems Apple-based technologies.

RGB's Savant channel partners are invited to visit by appointment, and demonstrate to potential customers first hand how any iOS device can become a personalised remote control for all their home entertainment and environmental needs.

RGB Chairman Gordon Innocent declares the initiative as "unique sales tool," saying that it "demonstrates the features and functionality of a total Savant solution in an environment that allows prospective customers to fully experience exactly what the solution can deliver." He's confident the facility will enable installers to drive and close new business opportunities.

The show home has been developed by London property specialist WILKO Developments. Director Matthew Wilkinson says he was eager to equip the location with an advanced home automation system: "I was aware that Savant was relatively new to the UK home automation marketplace and there was a lot of noise about its solution. As Savant has chosen RGB as its exclusive UK distributor I was confident that the team could deliver the knowledge, expertise and skill to ensure that together we could create the best home automation solution possible." He says the end result is "the smoothest, most responsive and intuitive home automation solution on the market today."

The show home system comprises a Savant SmartMediaPro12 modular matrix switch/controller with eight zones of audio and ten zones of HD video, six of which offer TrueCommand on-TV menu overlays. The control program runs on a Savant Smart Host featuring a pair of Mac Minis in a dual redundant configuration. Three additional Smart Hosts provide the graphics for the on-TV menu overlays. User control is via a handful of iPads, fixed in Savant in-wall SmartDocks and a Savant Select touch screen wireless handset.

A killer app is said to be Savant's intuitive TrueImage interface, which allows users with an iPad to control their home environment by browsing through actual photos of their property. "Just touching the image of a light you wish to control, turns it on or off - by pressing and holding the image the light dims," explains Wilkinson. "The image on the iPad animates, confirming the operational command." TrueImage makes full use of Apple gestures, including pinching and zooming. Users can navigate to specific rooms or expand the layout to see the full home automation system.

"Our goal was to create a Savant Experience show home which would give our channel partners a fantastic demonstration facility," Innocent tells us. "It provides them with a huge competitive advantage to help them increase new business and new revenue."

The Savant Experience show home is located at 35 Queen's Gate, South Kensington,Central London. For more information on the facility and Savant's accredited RGB channel partners contact Neil Howes at RGB +44 (0) 1488 73366.
